Class 10

Welcome to Class 10

In Class 10 we have kick started our time in Year 5 thinking about how we can dive into Year 5 and improve our learning and develop as learners and team members.

Our first topic has been World War 2 and we have thoroughly enjoyed this topic. On our Big Bang day we got to experience all sorts of feelings as we were put through the process of feeling like we were actually going to war! As the day progressed we all made gas masks and gas mask boxes; these were quite tricky. Over the course of the topic we have learnt so many facts and been able to try and empathise with children who were evacuated. One way that we did this was through our Class Novel - Carrie’s War. This followed the journey of a young boy and girl (Nick and Carrie) who were evacuated and separated from their parents to the countryside.

In Science, we have been studying different type of forces such as gravity and air resistance. We have had great fun carrying out some experiments; particularly parachute making for minions!

In RE, we have been studying Judaism and the suffering Jews experienced under Hitler’s regime. The children found it interesting to learn about the day to day living of Jewish people.

Lots of Literacy and Maths has been going on and all the children are trying very hard with the demands of the Year 5 curriculum.  The children are working hard to learn the times tables, with particular emphasis on the 4s and 7s. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed learning these to some interesting versions of pop songs!

We are now into Autumn 2 and looking forward to our Roman Big Bang day and our new topic ‘The Romans’. In addition, we have been working on some spooky literacy linked to our new Class Novel Room 13. We have created some highly impressive pieces of writing building in new SPAG elements to describe a spooky journey up to Whitby Abbey. We will also be creating some Hotel adverts with a twist.
